IP Geolocation for Independent Developers

Add geolocation to any project in one request — generous free tier, SDKs for ten languages, no infrastructure.

You just want to know where a user is without running your own geo stack. IP geolocation is one GET request — no database, no background jobs — with a free tier generous enough for most side projects, and an SDK for your language if you want one.

What indie developers do with it

From the first call to shipping a real feature.

Enrich any project in one call

A single GET request returns country, city, currency, timezone, and more. Add geo to a side project without standing up a database or a background job.

Example

GET /ip/{visitor}?apiKey=...

full geo + network data in one JSON response

Start free, scale only if it takes off

The free tier covers 2,000 lookups a day — plenty for hobby apps, demos, and hackathons. Upgrade only when the project actually grows.

Example

Indie app, ~1,500 lookups/day

stays comfortably inside the free tier → $0

Plain HTTP, or an SDK in your language

Call it as a plain GET from any language, or grab one of the official SDKs — TypeScript, Python, Go, Java, Kotlin, C#, PHP, Ruby, Rust, and Swift. Your choice, no lock-in either way.

Example

curl · Python urllib · or pip install the SDK

same endpoint, three lines each → works everywhere

Personalise and analyse small apps

Greet users in their language, default the right currency, or tag analytics by country — the same capabilities big products use, without the overhead.

Example

Visitor → 203.0.113.x

country: Australia → en-AU greeting, AUD default

The fields that do the work

Every one of these ships in the standard response — no add-ons, no tiers.

country / region / city Personalisation and per-user analytics
currency Sensible default currency in your UI
timezone Correct times without asking the user
flag Instant country flags in your interface
connection (ASN) Network insight for logging and debugging

Common questions

Is the free tier really enough for a side project?

For most, yes. 2,000 lookups per day covers hobby apps, demos, portfolios, and hackathon builds comfortably, with no card required. You only move to a paid plan if the project grows beyond that, and plans start at $2.50/month.

Do I need to install an SDK?

Only if you want to. It's a plain HTTP GET endpoint, so you can call it with whatever your language already ships — urllib in Python, fetch in Node, curl from the shell. If you'd rather use an SDK, official ones are available for TypeScript, Python, Go, Java, Kotlin, C#, PHP, Ruby, Rust, and Swift.

How fast can I get something working?

A couple of minutes. Grab a free key, make one request, and parse the JSON. The docs and guides include copy-paste examples in several languages — and an SDK for your stack if you prefer — so you can drop it straight into your project.
